Upload the export of a group chat, and Evidently reads the case updates, visits and hours your volunteers post there. Nothing changes for the people in the chat.
Upload a fileWhatsApp lets no app read a group directly, so you upload the file its own Export chat makes.
An example
HLWC Case Volunteers
Joanne Lim, Kavitha Rajan, Marcus Ong, Farah Ismail, Ahmad Yusof, Priya Nair
Upload it, step by step
On an iPhone: open the group, tap its name, tap Export chat, choose Attach media to include photos of sign-up sheets, and save the file.
On Android: open the group, tap the three dots, then More, then Export chat, choose Include media, and save the file.
In Sources, pick WhatsApp and add the .txt or .zip file.
Check how many messages, who wrote and when. If dates could be day-first or month-first, choose.
Tick everyone who is staff or a volunteer, yourself included, so they are never counted.
Name the chat, choose the dates, and press Read this chat.
Where you'll see it
- Sources shows the messages, the records found and each upload. Upload a newer export adds only what is new.
- The evidence behind a number shows the message, the words that support it highlighted.
- Review holds what Evidently wasn't sure about, with the messages around it.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “This doesn't look like a WhatsApp chat export.” | Export the chat again and upload the file WhatsApp gives you, unchanged. |
| “We can't tell whether the dates in this chat put the day or the month first.” | Choose one: the first messages are shown both ways so you can see which reads right. |
| “…photos or files are mentioned in the chat but weren't in the export.” | Export again with media if you want them read. |
